For whom is the Advanced Obedience class?

Owners: For those who wish to continue group training after completing the Obedience Course.

Dogs: For dogs that have successfully completed our Obedience Course (or a similar course at another school) and meet the following criteria:

Familiar with a clicker word or clicker
Sit
Recall
Walking on leash without pulling

Minimum age dog: 10 monhts

Temperament Requirements:

Dogs that are social with people and other dogs
Dogs that show no aggression or tension, even when toys, food or bones are present
Dogs that can remain calm in a group environment, even when waiting their turn, without extreme frustration or over-excitement

Note: This course does not address behavioral issues such as nervousness, fear, or aggression. If your dog has behavioral problems, our canine behavior therapist can assist you further.

Goals of the Advanced Obedience Course

Continue working with your dog after completing the basic Obedience course. Learning new skills is beneficial for mental well-being and strengthens the bond between you and your dog.
Improve reliability in essential commands, such as strengtening the recall and walking nicely on a leash.
Build focus during more challenging tasks.
Have fun with your dog through various sports and play elements.

Even at this advanced level, the course is delivered in the relaxed and playful style as you can always expect from OhMyDog.

Examples of skills covered in Advanced Obedience course

In this course, we will work on:

Sending your dog away from you using target training
Heel (walking right next to you)
Changing sides while walking (useful for passing other people and dogs)
Sit, stand and down from a distance
Recall with increasing distractions
Sitting next to you
Stay: longer durations and with distractions
Retrieving an object / fetch

It was the third course, and it was once again a great experience. Useful skills, but most importantly, you learn how to teach your dog things so that you can continue progressing on your own. The advice (from Stephanie or Yvonne) is very effective. Whenever Otis and I hit a roadblock, their analysis and suggestions were always spot-on, helping both Otis (and me) move to the next step. I can now do that more independently. Sometimes it’s a puzzle when things don’t come easily, but it’s incredibly rewarding when it clicks. There’s always personal attention, and there’s always room for advice on other dog-related matters. Now, we’ll continue together and start working with Beyond Obedience. I highly recommend OhMyDog to anyone who wants to train their dog in a positive way!
