Dog behaviour therapy

Who is behaviour therapy for?

For anyone struggling with their dog’s behaviour. For example:

  • Are you afraid to invite guests over because of your dog’s aggression?
  • Are your walks stressful due to aggressive moments from your dog on the street?
  • Is your dog too scared to handle daily activities?

A behavior therapy consultation is the right choice if you haven’t had success with general advice or non-specialized recommendations. If you feel your dog’s behaviour cannot be addressed with simple obedience commands, this service may be for you.

If you just adopted your dog, check out our rescue dog guide.

How does behaviour therapy work?

We work with custom packages. These packages are put together based on a form you fill out, after which you receive a no-obligation proposal for a tailored training package.

This typically consists of:

  • A consultation at home or online (1-2 hours). We discuss your dog’s background, the origin of the problems, etc. We do this without judgment because our goal is to help.
  • A summary with evidence-based recommendations. If available, you will also receive a step-by-step guide for exercises.
  • Practical training sessions where you work under supervision to improve your dog’s behavior.

How does it work?

For dogs in behavior therapy, there is often reduced well-being involved. Behaviour problems affect certain activities these dogs can engage in. This also applies to the owners of these dogs. We take responsibility for the well-being of both seriously.

Curious about our background? Learn more about our credentials here: Laure-Anne and Stephanie.

In all cases, we work in an animal-friendly way, without pain, intimidation or fear. When addressing a specific behavior, we always look at the root cause of the behavior. This way, we don’t suppress the dog’s response but tackle the core of the behavior itself. This approach improves the dog’s well-being and reduces the likelihood of a relapse into old behaviors.

I called OhMyDog! (Stephanie) for guidance about my German Shepherd’s behaviour problems, after an incident. My dog experienced a lot of stress and lunged at other people and dogs. After a nice conversation with Stephanie, I got the right tools to to tackle this problem independently and get started, together with my dog (the option for guided training was also available!). Every week I received feedback about the training and I was able to ask my questions which gave me adapted advice / exercises. As the training progressed I really saw a lot of growth in my dog and, right now, the problem behaviour is as good as gone / certainly greatly decreased! I didn’t dare dream of these results when I first started, but it has helped us so much and was really worth the investment! I can recommend this dog training school to anyone considering behaviour therapy for their dog! Very friendly, professional people with a lot of knowledge who have also taught me a lot about my dog!

After struggling with my dog’s separation anxiety for about a year, I decided to get consult OhMyDog for behaviour advice. Laure-Anne works in a very structured, solid way and her approach is also dog-friendly and personable. She conducts a thorough intake and invests the necessary time to understand the situation thoroughly. After that, she does not only give concrete exercises to tackle the problem behaviour but she also keeps your faith in the process and gives you advice and encouragement to keep you working on the problem after the consultation. I am grateful I could work with Laure-Anne and that I no longer need to rely on awful internet forums for advice. Not only is my dog coping better and better with being home alone, but I also understand her better. The therapy has only strengthened our bond.

We were really excited to find a solution for our dog who is in a really fearful state most of the time so we needed an expert’s point of view and further training. This place is the best you can find!! Good listeners and very professional! Thank you for your assistance!!

Have had a behaviour advice consultation because I wanted some guidance on how to deal with my dog’s insecure behaviour, and I wanted to find the root cause for her barking. The session was really nice and focused: customised to Leia’s issues. It has given us a useful mix of training steps and management tips. I am now much more confident and relaxed, and therefore Leia too. I highly recommend!

Can you help every dog?

No.

If we strongly suspect that your dog would benefit from being referred to another specialist, we will share this with you in our non-binding training proposal. This could involve a veterinarian or another behavior therapist with a specific specialization.

In some cases, it turns out that another (medical) specialist is needed even after behavior therapy. We always share this with you as soon as possible. The well-being of the dog is always our top priority.
