For whom is the Kids and Dogs course?

The kid

Age: kids between the ages of 7 and 11 years

Number of children: maximum 1 kid per dog

This course is a good fit for kids who:

  • Find it nice to become a junior trainer
  • Are getting bored of their dog as nothing they find fun is allowed
  • Would like the dog to listen to them once in a while, and not only mum and dad
  • Are still a little clumsy and boisterous with their dog.
  • Would like to do more activities with their dog

The dogs

Minimal age: 5 months.

Puppies younger than 5 months should first attend the puppy course. Would you like help with the interaction between your puppy and kid? Feel free to contact us.

Temperament:

  • Sociable to people and dogs, even in the presence of a chew bone/dog food/toys.
  • Can stay relaxed when waiting for their turn

Attention: This course is not designed to tackle existing behaviour problems (e.g. nervosity, fear or agression). If your dog showed risky behaviour in the past (such as lunging, growling, biting), then our behaviour therapist would like to help you.

I have just completed the dog-kid course and I loved it! Tommie listens to me a lot better now. And we play together nicer too. Thank you!

Our daughter, Amy, has completed OhMyDog’s dog-kid course last week. She found the lessons super nice and was really disappointed when the course reached an end! Amy has learnt a lot, and also found it nice to practice at home. She is also feeling more self-confident. We have seen the bond between her and Ted visibly grow, that is really nice to see! We really recommend this course!

We have followed the child-dog course with great pleasure. My daughter really liked it, and so did the dog. We have learnt lots of tricks so we can show off what our dog can do, but in a dog-child safe way! Plus points: Corono-safe, small group, lots of time and individual attention, including attention for additional questions, tons of fun for kids and dogs: crawing through tunnels, slaloms, agility course, jumping over obstacles, etc.

We followed the kid-dog course with my 10-year-old daughter and my 10-month-old Labradoodle. Laure-Anne and Stephanie explained the do’s and dont’s to the kids in a nice, playful, but clear way. It’s been four months and I still see the results. Milou respects Flow’s boundaries and makes sure her friends do too. The lessons themselves gave Milou and Flow quality time together, which definitely strengthened their bond. I highly recommend this course!

We have just finished our kid/dog training and what an eye opener it’s been! Such a great way to get your kid (and yourself!) familiar with the tell-tale signs BEFORE it goes wrong. Really clear explanations and great games that kids can play with their dog. Super nice course, and very interesting too! From now on, my kid’s interactions with dogs will be so much safer. Big thx !!

What will we learn during this course?

For the kids:

Being actively engaged with new knowledge and skills, such as:

    • Become a doggie translator: How does my dog say “Please give me space”?
    • Sit, drop it, come here:in a playful way, focussing on success
    • Agility: How do I coach my dog in an effective but friendly way?
    • Tricks and games: Nice games and tricks ideas that they can play toghether, to show off your dog and have fun together.
    • Playing togheter politely: Your dog asks nicely, instead of grabbing things out of your hands or jumping up.

For the parents

  • Theory lesson about appropriate interactions between kids & dogs: tips and trics for peace and quiet at home
  • Practical lessons:
    • You are participating, together with your kid
    • Help the dog become a little more resilient to clumsy kid-dog interactions
