Obedience class objectives

In the Obedience Class, we work on useful skills for daily life with your family dog.

Commands and basic skills that you can use every day to make living and walking together with your dog more enjoyable.

Of course, at OhMyDog, we’re not about drilling commands, but rather prioritize collaboration and trust. What we also consider just as important to teach you in the Obedience Course is: How do you resolve a situation when your dog doesn’t listen perfectly?

And of course: dealing with distractions, because there will be plenty at the dog training school!

We will work on the following cue’s.

  • Clicker word: A training principle to teach your dog new skills quickly.
  • Trustworthy ‘sit’: Even with food or another dog relatively close
  • Default check-in: Enjoy a dog who is regularly checking in with you during the walk
  • ‘Watch me’: With a short cue, your dog will have full attention on you.
  • Rock solid ‘leave it’: Even from a distance, without yelling, to not touch some delicious food on the ground
  • Let go: Teaching you dog to drop anything from there mouth.
  • Loose leash walking: Without pulling on the leash, enjoying a nice walk
  • Emergency ‘recall’: A sound that will have your dog jumping through fire (and ignore other dogs or food) to come back to you (except for dogs with a strong prey drive)

Naturally, you will only get the maximum out of the course if you attend every lesson, and practice, practice, practice between lessons.

Recently, we completed the obedience course at Oh My Dog, and I would highly recommend it to everyone. First of all, the cues that are taught are practical and applicable in daily life; they are genuinely useful. Secondly, the approach of the school is fantastic, teaching you to ask for cues from your dog in a respectful manner and ensuring that they follow them willingly. No harsh methods are used. My puppy and I came from another dog school, where we always left feeling down and without having learned anything new. At OhMyDog, she enjoyed it so much that she couldn't wait to return. The support was also great; when we experienced a setback due to health issues with my puppy, there was understanding and helpful advice. Lastly, this course teaches you to interact well with your dog, making it easier to teach other cues at home. My Labradoodle used to find grooming and trimming dreadful and wouldn't allow it, but now she sits calmly and enjoys it, coming out of the table happily.

We had a great and clear training session with Stephanie at the dog school OhMyDog. The explanation of the course material is very good and calm. Attention is given to how your dog is doing and what they need in their learning process. The atmosphere in the group is very pleasant, and the location is great! We’re looking forward to continuing training with our Moos at this wonderful dog training school.

During the obedience training, we received such good tips and guidance that even a very stubborn (but very cute) Manchester Terrier is now starting to obey. We will benefit from this training for a long time.

The people at OhMyDog! are well-educated, and you can really tell! In the courses, each dog receives a lot of personal attention so that they are neither over- nor under-challenged.
Hilde and Pip (Wire-haired Dachhund)
We attended the puppy course and obedience course. Our Pip (wire-haired dachshund) really learned a lot, but I actually learned even more! Lovely trainers with a lot of knowledge. They use positive reinforcement. Pip was always eager to participate. In case of rain, there is the option to take the course indoors. Highly recommended!
